Jeff Carter has been a professional photographer since 1994 and on leaving the Royal Air Force in 1996 he set up MacLean Photographic, specialising in sports photography, becoming the Official Photographer for the British Canoe Slalom team ahead of the Los Angeles Olympic Games. In 1997 he gained a Licentiate to the British Institute of Professional Photographers, one of the first to gain the award with a portfolio of motor sport images.

In 1998 he became the staff photographer at the Grantham Journal, one of the largest weekly newspapers in the East of England, working to provide the news desk with a variety of news and sports images.

In 2000 Jeff Carter took the post as the Press Officer for the European Formula Palmer Audi Championship and this has led to a long career at the pinnacle of motor sport.

Since 2009 he has worked for the FIA, the world governing body of motors sport, as the Media Delegate for the FIA GT3 European and FIA GT1 World Championships and since 2012 the FIA World Endurance Championship. As part of this role he has been able to be hands on with motor sport photography as well as being in charge of the international media and the official photographic agency for the championship. He has also been the photo delegate for the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans since 2012.

Alongside his motor sport photography, Jeff Carter has carved a great reputation for his commercial and fine art work, including landscapes in and around his home in Dunbar, Scotland. His work has been featured in many magazines including BBC Countryfile, Scottish Field, the Sunday Times, BBC Spring Watch and several other high profile media outlets both in the UK and abroad.

His love of the Scottish landscapes is clear for all to see in the gallery and on the MacLean Photographic blog and Flickr pages. In 2014 MacLean Photographic launched a series of Workshops where Jeff teaches other photographers how to get the best out of their camera and take home some great memories from East Lothian and the Borders of Scotland.

In June 2015 Jeff Carter was named as a Fujifilm X-Photographer and he is now one of the 400 professional photographers around the world who are brand ambassadors for the Japanese camera manufacturer.

As a Fujifilm X Photographer Jeff Carter has been involved with the pre production testing of several new cameras, lenses and software including the new Fujifilm X-T2, Fujifilm X-Pro2, XF100-400mm, 1.4x and 2x converters, 50-140mm f2.8 lens, 90mm f2 lens and the V4.0 firmware update for the Fujifilm X-T1.

In 1996 Jeff Carter used Nikon cameras and lenses and continued to do so until 2014. Jeff bought his first Fujifilm X camera in 2012, a limited edition X100. In 2013 he bought an X-Pro1 and four prime lenses to run alongside his Nikon equipment but in April 2014, he bought the newly launched X-T1 and the Nikon gear was sold in the next three months.

Jeff Carter now shoots exclusively with Fujifilm and currently has the X-T2, X-Pro2, X100T, four Fujinon zoom lenses, four prime lenses, 1.4x and 2x converters and a Fujifilm EF-X500 flash.

On the 15th January 2016 Jeff was invited by Fujifilm to travel to Japan to take part in the press conference and talk about the launch of the XF100-400mm and the EF-X500 flash gun.

He was one of only two invited photographers to take part in the press conference, the other being celebrated National Geographic and Magnum photographer
David Alan Harvey. In July 2016 he was also invited by Fujifilm to help with the launch of the X-T2 at the Le Mans Classic event.
